Bruno Mars has always been mixing the old school with the new, and the video for "Treasure" - released June 14, 2013 - was one of his slickest throwback experiments.
As the third single from Mars' chart-topping second album Unorthodox Jukebox, the singer conceived the track as a guaranteed party-starter. "We're fun, like to dance and party, and we didn't really get to do a lot of that on the first album," co-writer Philip Lawrence told American Songwriter. "It's the kind of song where the whole band can get up and jam and have this Earth, Wind & Fire kind of moment."
The song's video took that retro concept one degree further, putting Bruno and his bandmates in matching red suits against a vintage-style backdrop complete with vintage visual effects that made the picture look like something you'd have taped off an old television back in the day. (True to form, the video remains unavailable in HD!)
At the time, Mars took things one step further, encouraging fans to upload themselves getting down to the track with the hashtag #treasuredance on Instagram. It was the first time anyone had ever done this through the popular photo app, which was rolling out video features at the time.
